    Position Summary:

    The Controls Engineer Co-Op is responsible for assisting with the development of PLC programs, HMI applications, and database applications used to control and monitor production lines for food and beverage plants.


    • Minimum second-year student, working towards bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Alternatively, a bachelor’s in Mechanical or Chemical with electrical coursework and/or experience that is applicable to process control systems.
    • Knowledge of PLC ladder logic programming language.
    • Familiar with HMI / GUI programming concepts.
    • Exposure to MS Access or MS SQL Server databases
    • Strong initiative, with ability to work independently but knows when to ask for help.
    • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Must be a team player.


    The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior software engineers to:

    • Program PLC ladder logic
    • Develop HMI applications used by operators to run processing lines
    • Deploy SQL databases used to store recipes and production data
    • Program visual basic routines used to transfer data between the PLC and SQL database
    • Develop reports and supporting queries in a SQL database
    • Test and debug PLC, HMI, and database applications
    • Develop project documentation
    • Assist with construction of electrical control panels
    • Assist with testing of electrical control panels
    • Provide support for installation of control systems at customer sites
